Mt. Zion AME Church is the first recorded African-American congregation of any denomination, and the oldest and continuous African Methodist Episcopal Church on the entire Main Line.
In the year 1849 or 1850 a group of faithful workers saw the necessity of a church in and around Centreville (also spelled Centerville, formerly Walkerville or Walkertown, later called New Centreville, now known as Devon).
